I live in Roswell, about a hundred and twenty-five miles away. I've gotten some gorgeous shots there. Nearby is Ruidoso up in the Sacramento Mountains, This time of year there's a lot of snow up there. You can get some great shots there too.

Sorry but Los Alamos is up toward Santa Fe and White Sands is down toward Alamosa in the south central part of the state. There's an area north up the highway from Alamosa called Valley of the fires that is an ancient lava flow area and also the highway going up toward Cloudcroft goes by a large abandoned railroad tassel and a lot of nice mountain scenes.

Three Rivers north toward Santa Fe. Great petroglyphs along the ridge, easy trail. Workable anytime of day!

Of course you get great shots. You live in Roswell NM, that means you are an alien, from a planet with highly evolved cameras and lenses. You take photos from you flying saucer.

I'm jealous.

No problem...just a suggestion was all. I lived and worked in Los Alamos for 4 years and at one time took a trip down to White Sands...well actually on my way to Texas for a weekend. Anyway, the drive up the hill to Los Alamos has some beautiful scenes.

If going to white sands pick your weeks a week before to a week after a new moon. Catch their star parties

Very nice sunrises and sunsets there. This time of year it gets chilly, the downside of that is if the sand is moist it freezes at night and doesn't get blown around enough to cover the footprints the daytime visitors leave. But be there when the sun is low so that the shadows bring out the ripples in the sand.

Beautiful, great Images

The petroglyphs are very interesting here, too.
