Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I always shot with film and then just got used to using my phone until a young lady at work brought in her digital to shoot some equipment I was building. Inspired, I bought a used D3400 like hers as it seems to take nice shots and isn't overly complicated. The first two shots are in the same place at the same time. The sun was setting behind me and the moon had climbed over the top of my neighbor's house at about 5:00PM. I couldn't hold the camera steady enough at 200mm so I upped the shutter speed to make it faster and in hopes of getting a cleaner shot with the risk of washing out the color a bit. I was really happy with the result. The moon really gets emphasized. You'd never know how blue the sky was. 18-200 F/3.5-5.6 superzoom 1/60, f5.6, iso 100 and then the one that looks b&w was 1/500, f5.6 iso 720. The nearly full moon was taken with a $70 Vivitar 500mm with a doubler and a tripod of the same price category. 1/100 f/11, iso 100 at about 10:00 at night. I was pretty happy with the detail especially considering the budget gear I was using. None of these have been edited as I haven't yet figured out which software to use and the canned stuff on my computer is horrible. Just figured it was time to put myself out there a bit. Welcome aboard. Pretty nice results with your budget gear. If you want a fast start with post processing, at a reasonable price, and with a small learning curve, check out Topaz Labs and the array of goodies they offer. I'd recommend starting with Topaz Adjust 5, or their newer Adjust AI (artificial intelligence). This software can help with a wide array of improvements to your images. djt
