In December, tca2267 brought up the topic of water drops. I had done some in the past with single drops so I thought about getting enough equipment to do drop collisions. The first session in a very cold garage was fun! I need to work on getting a nice full reflection and maybe some colors. I used a Pluto trigger and valve.

These are nice! I rather like the blown out highlights with hints of light rays. Had not seen that before. Maybe one is technically not supposed to have that, but it is interesting b/c it is different.

Thanks! I was using iso 800 (for no good reason) and I needed to lighten the image once I saw it on my monitor.

In my last drop sessions, I used a flash pointed at the back stop. This time I had the two flashes pointed at the splash.

Cool! It looks like a glass mushroom.

Very cool. Far exceeds my crude homemade set up. I actually manually fired the flash based on getting used to the dripping time rhythm per my "internal clock". Single front flash.

The "internal clock" was my method for single drops. This fancy set up makes me feel like I'm cheating!

Its a little to technical for me but I love what you've done.

Hi, appreciate your work and sharing. It helps encourage others to explore what and how they see the world around them. This can become a real specialty that develops with more time and experimentation. I watched a youtube video several weeks ago on the subject - thickening the liquid, adding food coloring, etc. Keep up the good work and please share more of your experiments.

The single drop is not technical at all! You just need a flash, some water, a tripod and time. The pluto trigger just makes it more controllable.

Thanks! I did use thickener for this one. More to follow if we have some bad weather. :)
