I suspect that these reports are largely deflection from the real issue which is climate change. The arson reports seem to be predominately reported in the Murdoch press and other concervative media. Fires on this scale have never been seen before in Australia. Climate change is real and frightening.

We have our own fire problems in California but your fires have scorched far more acreage and I believe more homes the last few years.
I had a chance to serve in Australia in 1970 but I talked the USAF out of sending me when I found Woomera on the map, 50 years ago it was not even a village and the only roads in were red clay as I remember, could not put the family thru that.
