Quite a boat, with quite a history.

I believe she's a museum in LA now.

Yes, I remember when the USS Iowa left the Bay Area and headed to the Long Beach, CA area. Where it is permanently stationed. FDR loved that Battleship, and it has been rumored, that if FDR had not passed away, before the Pacific War was over. It would have been the Battleship for the Japanese Surrender. Instead, the USS Missouri was chosen, the home of President Truman.

And the USS New Jersey is in Camden, NJ, across the river from Philadelphia, PA. But where is the USS Wisconsin?

The wiki page covering the Iowa class battleships says the Wisconsin is a museum ship at Norfolk, VA.

The Iowa is available for tours in Los Angeles, not Long Beach. Next time I am out there it will take up a day of my time. Those tours are good history lessons.

Nice photo of a beautiful old lady and at times she could be downright nasty.

been there. The USS Iowa is in the Port of Los Angeles, actually in San Pedro. The Port of LA is in several cities. Used to live near there. My brother still does.

I resided in Va Beach at the time the Wisconsin was berthed on the Norfolk waterfront. Took many shots of her being towed and berthed, which I can’t seem to locate. πŸ˜•πŸ˜•πŸ˜•

Before she went to CA to become a museum, Iowa was berthed for several days in Brooklyn, near the old Brooklyn Navy Yard (officially the New York Naval Shipyard), where she was built and commissioned. It was a privilege to have gone aboard.

All the Iowa class battleships were made at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn N.Y.. It's all gone now. But some of those great ships are still with us. Including the Arizona, she is still under commission.

Fine picture of an old dreadnaught master of the seas at the time. I always marvel at the shape of the bow and the guns on this class of ship.
