BBF versus someone else using your camera

Since going UHH I have learned BFF and like. Only problem is if I want some else using my camera to take a picture of me/us: it takes too much to explain use of BBF .
So I set AE button of my D7200 to BBF, but returned the main shutter button to also autofocus, so the camera will focus both ways.
My question: when I use this and use the BBF keeping it down and take a picture (or BBF focus, let go of button, then take the picture): will the camera slow itself down to focus before taking the picture, or decide: I already am focused, so the focusing via the shutter button will not need to occur anymore. ?
What say you , UUH experts?

I had this same dilemma but for what few times someone else would use my camera I just switch it to auto mode and BBF does not work in that mode. I’m using a Canon.

I have BBF and mostly spot metering set and my wife does not want to know the details of using those, nor do I want to try to explain to a stranger.
Setting to AUTO reverts everything to PHD mode.
I understand that Nikon does not do that.

I don't know about slowing it down but it will refocus when shutter button is pushed.

Define "it" or use "Quote Reply" please.
The camera will not refocus on shutter press on the Canon with BBF set. Mine doesn't.

If I read the OP right his BBF is set up and he left focus on the half press shutter button also. Seems like that would cause issues to me but not sure?

On my Canon, focus is one or the other, not both.

I have several olympus milc's. 2 e-m1,2 e-m5. all 1st gen. All are set for bbf. This past summer, i let a teen girl from church borrow one of the e-m5 models to take on a family trip to yellowstone. I explained how the camera was set up, and told her that the camera would default to the shutter button in auto mode. i have all my cameras set on manual 99% of the time. She had the system figured out within 10 min.

Now I know that is not the same as handing someone a camera set to bbf, and having them figure it out, but, my wife is a serious non tech person. She uses a pocket panasonic little thing on auto. I gave her one of the olympuses, showed her how to use the back button, and off we went to a polo match. she came back with about 60 images, all of which were in perfect focus.
moral of the story? BBF is not that hard for non camera users to work with.

Read the ops, he's using a D7200 with BBf and shutter set to focus. His question was will it slow the camera down. No mention of a Canon.

I can guarantee you that not ALL people fit into that category.
Especially if they don't want to be bothered and prefer just clicking the shutter.

There is something that I really miss with the advent of the selfie. When traveling on vacation, when I'd see a couple with a camera, I'd offer to take the shot for them. And, on occasion, when someone offered to use my camera to photography me and my other half, I'd appreciate that.

And before you say it, it comes with a risk. But if I sense a risk, I won't ask some else to photograph us with my camera. But I have to tell you, when we traveled out of our country, it was a wonderful way to meet new fellow travelers.

My first approach is as follows:

1. Hand camera to buddy
2. Tell him/her to press the AF button
3. Tell him/her to press the shutter
4. Tell him/her to hand my camera back to me

My second approach is as follows:

1. Frame the image and pre-focus
2. Switch focus to MF
3. Hand camera to buddy
4. Tell him/her to press the shutter
5. Tell him/her to hand my camera back to me

I don’t know about you guys, but these seem to work... The last step is crucial!

Thanks all for your input thus far. Still figuring out. Yes meeting people by having them take a picture happens. Sometimes I worry with my new 7200 that he/she might just walk away with it, hasn’t happened yet. Happy new year.
