Dear Fellow Hoggers: Today is New Year's Day! It's another year for me and my wife for many things. It's another year without my parents and my only biological sister. It is another year without my aunts and uncles. It is another year without my son, Brian.
It is another year that my son, Christopher will be working to defend his Ph.D. thesis. (Don't ask me what it's about. It's rocket science to me, literally!)
My daughter has learned her ninth musical instrument towards her degree as a Music Teacher. It is also her birthday! She was born on New Year's Day. She wanted to have all of her closest friends over for a birthday party today. So everyone came over our home. They all partied from 9PM last night till about 3AM. There was lots of finger foods that kids like to eat. There was absolutely no alcohol. We hid all of our booze and locked it away. The had a great time and watched the Times Square Ball drop on television. They were all safe in our home. My wife and I had a great night's sleep knowing these "kids" were warm, safe and dry. Later today we will have a birthday cake for my daughter. We are waking up on New Year's Day to starting Year 2020 right. And if the children misbehave, we can blackmail them with the enclosed photo.

They aren't most well behaved especially since they will be blackmailed. And, I have the photos to prove it.
I'm sure that you must have an equally talented family and true friends.
Happy Shooting!

Holy Smokes!!
I'm so impressed. I couldn't have believed it. As for her talent, the acorn doesn't fall too far trim the mighty oak.
Happy and a Healthy New Year!
Happy Shooting!
Well that is great, and after a certain age just waking up seems to be a reason to celebrate.
I will refrain from starting in on "2020" is the last year of the 202nd decade of the the Gregorian Calendar, not the first of the 203rd decade.
Great family photo for the record. You should have set the clock in the background to 11:00 or so and made it look like they slept all day. I'm sure they had a great time and that is what family is all about!
My son and I had a quiet evening and a good Jan 1.
I think every family has one of those coverings (can't recall the proper name) over the person on the couch on the right.

Sorry, but this is a common mis-conception. Unless you’re using “decade” to include ANY group of ten years it’s wrong. Just as the year 2000 was the last year of the 20th Century and not the first year of the 21st, 2020 is the last year of the current decade not the first of the next.

Technically you may be right but it's not the way we talk in everyday life and goes against everything I've been taught in counting. Since we start counting at 0 which makes nine the last digit and the turnover. And you're right A decade is any group of 10 years. but for everyday calendar count we typically use zero to start so 2020 is the start of a new decade.
Decades—periods of ten years—begin when the year count ticks over from a year ending with 9 to a year ending with 0. For example, New Year's Day 1980 marked the beginning of the eighties.

Agree...to a point😊
1980 marked the colloquial beginning of the “eighties” which ended in 1989 and would constitute a grouping of ten years.
I won’t blame you at all if you choose not to muddle through the explanation which follows but it’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
In any case Happy New Year!😊!😊
The way I see it is, as there was no year “0”, January 1st, 0001 would have marked the beginning of the first decade...the first 10 years...which would have ended on December 31st, 0010. The second decade thus began on January 1st, 0011 and ended on December 31st, 0020.
Of course , no such calendars existed so we’ve had to retro-fit. But in doing so we have to maintain the logic, thus the first Century had to have ended on December 31st, 0100 and the second Century began on January 1st, 0101 and ended on December 31st, 0200. Which of means that the 20th Century ended on December 31st, 2000 and the 21st Century began on January 1st, 2001.
Logically, this date also marked the beginning of the first decade of the 21st Century which naturally ended on December 31st, 2010 which brings us up to date in that the first year of the second decade began on January 1st, 2011 and the current decade WILL end on December, 31st, 2020.

It is an argument that will continue forever.
The Base-10 system, which we all use, goes from 0 - 9, or 1900 - 1999, or 2020 - 2029. There are arguments for both sides of this topic.
