Nix is not alone. Many of my "free" - and/or completely paid for - programs and apps are doing the same thing. Very annoying, especially considering, as you say, very little added value. Well, they are trying to get their revenues up but they are, I think, going about it the wrong way.
Why don’t you contact DxO and ask them?
Did you contact them and ask how to stop this.
I had the issue with Corel last year and they sent detailed instructions how to stop their pop ups.

Are you sure this isn’t a notice for an update to your current owned product? I.e., not an ad for a new version?

The answer is "UNTIL YOU UPGRADE"!!!

That is really weird. Those ambiguous 3 words probably causes them to lose more customers than they gain.

I've been giving this some thought. I just can't imagine DxO putting out a message like this.

I had that popup message. It was alerting me to an update to the product I owned. Quite common with software.
It was not an ad to upgrade to a new product.
(Not with the handwritten text)
Don’t look really to me- virus, spam.....?
The program knows that there is a new upgrade because it accesses the internet. If you don't allow this particular program to access the internet it won't display that message.

How do you prevent the program from having access to the Internet?

Someone put it one with a large Sharpie.

Do you already own the Nik Collection 2? It looks line the same update message I get when a point update version was available with a couple of bug fixes and additional filters. If you own the Nik Collection 2, its's a free update, not an product upgrade. It has nothing to do with buying a new version of the software. You'll have to pay for the next full upgrade to version 3, but DXO never charges for point updates for software versions you already own. You could have saved yourself the aggravation months ago.

Its not an upgrade. The dialog box very clearly says an update, which would be free.
