Thorny Leaf

This is a focus stacked image of the tip of a leaf of the bushy plant that my other half planted along the porch. It's leaves are a tough deep shinny green and they are as tough as the dickens. As the leaves grow they form thorny ends which are quite sharp. I know because the darn things get me everytime I walk too close.

I though cutting one off for a focus stacking session would be my revenge. If you 'double download' you can see the cell structure of the leaf.

Thanks in advance to all who view and for your comments, suggestions, questions and critique.

As I don't play to much on UHH I was not smart enough to realize that downloading the image gave a lot more detail than the thumbnail...........I like the attempt. It appears to be a little soft at the base and the point but that happens.........I'm assuming you still don't like using an off camera flash but you might want to experiment with a reflector(s).........How many images in the stack? ......how did you stack 'em?

Thanks for viewing and the feedback. This is a 125 image stack with 15-micron of distance traveled between images. The image could have been sharper at both ends had I extended the "start" and "stop" points of focus.

I often equate my focus stacking gear as 'looking through a soda straw' because when I pull the camera back I see more and as the camera moves closer I see less. I found that when I make deep stacks and process them, ever so many of the shots get cropped away thus becoming a waste of time and an increased file size.

I use constant LED lighting diffused through translucent plastic cups with a layer of white paper towel. When the shooting session is complete I process them in Zerene Stacker.
