Motorists are advised to proceed with extreme caution.
Highway 1 runs the length of California from the Mexican Border to Oregon. Most of that distance it's right on the coast. The Pacific Ocean being what it is, bits of the highway fall into the ocean with some regularity. This is a loop of abandoned highway north of Mendocino.

Sad they have failed to maintain it by rerouting it back further. CA sucks.

Thanks for posting the photos , I lived there in Morro Bay many years ago , the coast is beautiful and you would need to be an engineer to understand why they haven't rebuilt the road , because of the large amount of dirt above that will come down when they excavate for the new road . Thank again for posting .

I did not say they did not reroute it. This loop was abandoned for obvious reasons. In this section, the new route is several hundred yards back.
California has its problems, as does everywhere. Some of them it handles well, some it does not. This is true everywhere too. I may be biased, but I think California handles many of its issues better than many other places.
