LR - Move a small subset of Catalog to a new LR

My daughter used my Lightroom to edit some paid shoots she did. I imported her images on to my machine and she did her edits on my machine. Now my daughter has a suitably powered laptop and is purchasing her own LR subscription.

I now want to offload my daughter's images and associated catalog entries onto an external drive which she could import. I am unable to find a procedure to do this. Any suggestions or pointers on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

I believe file/export as catalog would do the trick.https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/create-catalogs.html

Two ways:

1. Export each image as a DNG. Give her the DNGs.

2. Select the images from the Library Grid view. From the File menu, select Export as Catalog. Give her the contents of the resulting folder.

Place desired images into a collection.
Select all the images.
Export the collection as a catalog.

Placing them into a collection makes it easy for you to find them later if you don't want them cluttering up your catalog.

Put all her images and their edits into a folder on your machine and copy that folder to an external drive. She can then copy that folder to her HD or leave it on the external drive for importing into LR. LR will create its initial catalogue for the photos.

It sounds like you are suggesting giving her the original images and the edited images. If that's what you mean, you are leaving out the editing steps in LR and specifically the slider positions for the edits. Those are contained in the catalog. Exporting the files into a new catalog will include everything. It might be possible to include xmp files if you saved them.

This is exactly what I do after an on-site shoot with my laptop. So long as everything she needs is under one folder structure just select the top level folder and export the folder as a new LR catalog. Copy the folder along with the exported catalog to her computer and either open the exported catalog if this is a brand new installation for her or she can import the catalog into her existing catalog. She will likely need to “locate” the folder afterwords as it will appear with a question mark.

By "and their edits" I meant to include the xmp files.

Exporting the folder as a catalog includes all the edits. LR takes care of everything.

It's basic and easily accessible from the menu system. A simple search would have let you learn and make you remember more.

Typically, I use the catalog option to write changes to metada to xmp. You end up with a small "sidecar" file with all the changes that have been made to the image. She should be able to copy the folders which include the files and their corresponding xmp files to the other computer, and using the "ADD" option, import them into LR once they are on the machine.

The better way would be to export the files as a catalog by choosing the folders containing the files in the Folder view of the Library module. Then you can use the Import From Another Catalog from the File menu in the other copy of LR.
