Wow. I've been thinking 1.4 to go with my 200/500, just sold me thanks...

The 200-500 is a great lens. Adding the 1.4 does soften it a little.

Amazing series. We have a local park where we see many of these birds, less the gators, of course. I especially like your first image of the night heron. During the warmer/drier times, we have that green algae plaguing our park lakes. I have always found that to be rather ugly. However, you first image is outstanding with the green water and background. Now, I'll look at the lakes with a different perspective. Most excellent images.

Mike

Thanks! It's one of my favorites of the series.

David,

Great work! The overcast sky actually was beneficial because it diffused the light and improved shadow detail, which is excellent in your series. You did an awesome job.

Thanks for posting,

Bob

Thanks! Yes, it did help to improve the shadows. Any photo with sky in the background wasn't great though.

Dave,

Handheld with a 200-500mm with a 1.4 TC? That’s amazing... no, actually awesome.

Yes. Kept the shutter speed at a minimum of 1/1000.

Went out to the Apopka Wildlife Drive for the first time yesterday. It's a huge wetland area that you can drive your car around. Weather wasn't that great and it was overcast most of the time, which made for poor lighting. A huge amount of birds were there. All shots were taken with the Nikon D500 with the Nikon 200-500mm and 1.4 TC.
