I drove out to visit a friend, who lives more than a bit out of the way. Following somewhat arcane instructions ("after what used to be the Esso station, turn right at the third big cactus") I found myself completely lost. The road I traveled grew narrower, the shoulders disappearing into the weeds and the pavement growing increasingly cracked. Just before it disappeared completely into an old washout, I came upon a railroad trestle. This being the Close Up section, I won't show you a picture of the whole thing (I haven't got a good one anyway). The towers holding the track up are riveted steel, ca. 1940, and this is a close-up of one of those.
