I usually do only portraiture, but decided recently to expand my horizons a bit. I spent a few hours at a nearby garden trying to get some butterfly shots - I can see how it would be addiciting!

The flowers, the birds, the butterflies; I am thinking I may have to go back and try again!

Anyway, here are a few, thanks for looking!

Not the sharpest focus, but loved the "in flight" look

Not sure what this flower is, but LOVED the colors

Those little buggers are so fast, it's hard to catch one in flight. I took a 100 butterfly pictures, but got a couple that could be used. Good job on all.

Your butterfly in-flight is a male Monarch;
your second image is a female Monarch;
your third photo is snapdragon flowers.

I like the near monochromatic look of your dragonfly.

Tom DePuy's photo is of a Gulf Fritillary.

Is the dragon fly captured with natural lighting, Belle? I really like that image! I think I'm going to make it my "Desktop Background of the Month".....with your permission. Matted and framed with a black matting.......a special image.

Dave - yes, natural lighting. All I did was crop and sharpen. Please feel free to use as your desktop image!

Thanks for the identification Nikonian! I knew they were Monarchs but did not realize one was male and one was female - interesting!
