Question for Mac OS Mojave and Catalina users re: Lightroom 3 compatibility

Yes, I'm still using Lightroom 3 in Yosemite on a MacBook Pro. I'm contemplating an update to Mojave or Catalina, probably the former. And I have read every tech article I can find on this OS and LR3. The only glitch I've been able to find is some users have reported a LR crash when switching between "normal" and "dark" screen displays. However, nothing beats reports from actual users.

If you are a user please reply. If you're not, please don't. I want personal experience reports. Many thanks in advance!

I don’t have Lightroom 3 I have Lightroom 6. with that being said I can tell you categorically that lightroom 3 will not work on Catalina OS 10.15 because there are components that go along with it that are are only 32 bit and Catalina is 64 bit only. Mojave will keep giving you popups warning you that your 32 bit apps are not optimized for the next OS upgrade. Also what year is your MacBook Pro? you didn’t say? I would check to see if Mojave is compatible with your hardware.

Thanks Chevman. My version is mid-2014 and will run Catalina. From what I have read and according to my Applications data Lightroom 3 is 64 bit.

Lightroom is 64 bit some of the extensions that Lightroom uses are not. For instance if you use Lightroom to do some RAW editing then want to use an external editor the mechanism that permits you to make a round trip won’t work. I might be wrong, but that is my understanding. Check other components that are attached to Adobe and Lightroom. All should work fine with Mojave 10.14 though you will just get the warning popups every so often. I would stay away from Catalina 10.15 though.

Thanks again Chevman. Seeing that I don't use any other software programs on my photographs it looks like I'll be in good shape with the upgrade to Mojave.
