Here's another vote for Art to Frames. I do 75-100 frames a year and they are very competitive and I've never had a problem in the 5+ years I've used them.

Thrift stores, garage/yard sales, check trash day around apartments/houses where people are moving, estate sales (be careful of the prices), craigs list, your friends, michaels and hobby lobby when on sale, Dick Blick - check clearance sale area, Dollar tree/.99 store types, etc. You can pick up some very good frames for a fraction of their cost this way. You can cut down larger frames when they are too big and refashion them, for a small cost and little time. Have fun and happy hunting.

Ac moore. Has sales. They are being taken over by michaels

Don't think A.C. Moore is taking online orders anymore.
Our local Michaels' now has an Aaron Brothers frame shop in store and is their online store.

Hobby Lobby has a nice selection of picture frames. They have these frames called snap frames in several sizes. I use the 13x19" for $9 and they have them half off once a month and you can use their online coupon and buy one for 40% off at a time over and over.

It really depends on want you want. For something quick and cheap, head to Wally-World.

Standard size or custom?

Without more details, this is really hard to answer.

Maybe you don't know the options.

I have kind of gotten away from actual wooden/metal frames. It all depends on your preference.
My reason being I want others to focus on my photography and not be distracted by anything external to it.

Kind of like a right in your face approach (yeah, I know...).

You can buy wood molding and easily cut and make your own. The options are endless.

Do you intend to matte it first?

I would be more than happy to answer any further questions or offer advice.

I buy frames at thrift stores. I pick the ones that just need to be cleaned, and maybe a little old english polish, unless I want to paint them. They often come with mats that can be reused. For $5 or so and a few minutes of my time I get a frame that would cost $100.
