Saw a pair of these guys in the backyard this morning, grabbed my camera but one had already left. This fellow stayed around pecking for a little bit though.

I had one pecking on a live walnut tree out my bedroom window this morning. Beautiful birds. I have seen three at the same time on my 37 wooded acres last year. Haven't gotten a good shot of one yet.

They are very skittish...these were the first shots I have gotten of one over several years now.

Beautiful shots. The pileated woodpecker is my favorite bird in all the world. I have had some success photographing them, but never seem to have the right gear at the right time.
