A Willet and a trailing Marbled Godwit search the Assateague (VA) shoreline for food in late November.
nice shot, love that area and winter remoteness
Nice shot. As much as I love the Island, I never seem to observe Eagles when I am there. For Eagles, I find many at Blackwater, a National Refuge near Cambridge, MD. Good size refuge and usually lots to see. I never need to drive through more than a couple times to find good subject matter. The Eagles are starting to get romantic. I saw 7 up close last week and 6 were clearly in couples. Some time, in the next month or two, they will close the loop so the Eagles can have a little privacy. Anyone going any distance should check to see when and for how long this closing will be. Call or go on-line.
Excellent download---thanks!

When the mosquito population reaches near zero in fall, Chincoteague and Assateague island are among the treasures from OBX to Bar Harbor, ME.
In the summer season where there are more biting insects... not so much.

Blackwater is a treasure for sure. That whole area including the Bay are a waterfowl photog's haven.

That's great!
It was the calm before the storm. The following day, Nov. 24, it was near impossible to bird from Chincoteague to OC, Maryland. In the near gale force wind conditions, which brought diving Gannets to within 50 yards of the beach at OC inlet, larger lenses were practically worthless. Merely using binocs wes a challenge.

You're welcome. Seeing a Marbled G. that close without cover of some kind was a first!
The bugs/mosquitos can be rough during the Summer months. This is true wherever Marsh and/swampy conditions prevail. I do find that the wind diminishes the problem almost totally when near the beach. I also shoot from the car when bugs are biting. A quick stop and moving on can drastically reduce the problem. I enjoy these places most during Fall and Spring, anyway. Even during Winter there seem to be birds around. If I didn’t have to decorate for Christmas today, I would be heading down there right now.
