There are several different Topaz programs, many new in the past couple of years. Back when "Detail" and "Simplify" were separate purchases I successfully used Detail quite often on my Canon SX50 jpgs of distant eagles.

Is there a free trial offered with the purchase you're viewing, or a return policy? Check here for various modules and bundles: https://topazlabs.com/

An important observation I read recently: if your computer meets only the minimum requirements to run certain software, you may be less than satisfied. Several on UHH have described one of the Topaz programs (Sharpen AI maybe) as running very slowly for them. So that's something else to consider

I have given it a try and compared doing Topaz products with JPEG and then with RAW. It can improve JPEG a little, but the effect is much greater using RAW. Mostly tried it with Denoise AI and Sharpen AI.

The problem is that JPEG is too limited. And so much original information has been already discarded that there isn't much to work with.

Topaz and other third-party plugins can work with camera-generated jpegs. However, To get the best quality and enjoy the widest range of post processing adjustments, providing Topaz with 16 bit raster files (psd or tiff), generated from raw files would make a better overall choice. When you have completed all of your corrections and adjustments in Topaz you can reduce the results to 8 bit jpegs. The images will often be of better quality, as far as non-compositional aspects are concerned.

I don't see why not.

I use all of the Topaz programs but as a plug in with Photoshop CC. When I use them I am still working on a RAW, unsaved image. I am sure they will work with a JPEG, but like any JPEG image, you are looking at an image with limited abilities to be manipulated.

Look at the issue of a new computer issue first. Then, consider Gene's response. Yes, Topaz will operate on your JPEGs. But, are there other tools just as good that cost less when processing the highest-resolution setting for your camera's JPEGs? Do you possibly already own those tools?

That is right. "Limited Abilities". For instance, Topaz Denoise AI can do a fantastic job on noise, if you started with the RAW file. But using the JPEG, it can't do nearly as good of a job since for the most part, the noise seems to be baked into the JPEG.

Note: I don't actually use the RAW file with Topaz. I start with Lightroom and call Topaz from it. Lightroom then sends a TIFF file to Topaz and when done, returns the result to Lightroom. Or I use it with Photoshop.

That is advisable. The new Topaz tools are incredibly good and can do things other SW cannot do. But they need a powerful computer with a good GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) to use them.
