Need to pick Hoggers' brains. My old Epson colour printer has just died, it only lasted 20 years. Now need a new colour printer for photographs, possible a reasonably priced Canon.

Grateful thanks for any recommendations and/or of experience of using Canon printers.

For what it's worth, I've been using a Canon MX920 (all-in-one) for a few years now and am pleased with it.
(All my prior printers were Canons also.)
But all manufacturers keep introducing new models every few months.......
The older ones get retired.

after consulting with the hedgehogs earlier this year, I bought a Canon TS9000, and am very happy with it. However, you'll get better advice if you give us some additional info about the amount and type of use you make of your printer, and the size of print you want. for example, I chose a smaller, lighter weight printer, because I rarely print larger than 8 x 10, and my preferred choice for the next level up was going to take up most of my available desk space and be much heavier than I would want to haul up the stairs.

You should probably give more information. How big will you want to print? What is reasonably priced? What do you want to be able to print on?. If you print black and white, there are printers that do a much better job. Your question is pretty wide open.

Consumer Reports wrote an article about printers a while ago. One of the things I remember was "Some printers are inexpensive to buy and the ink is very expensive - some printers are expensive to buy and the ink is cheap." If you plan on using ink from the printer manufacturer, check both before buying.

I'm interested in the replies as well. I'm currently printing 8.5 x11's out of an Epson Eco Tank ET-3600 for proofs. The colors are not very accurate - but it is only a 3 ink + black printer. There are no ICC profiles for it.

I'm looking at the Canon Pro 10 and Pro 1000. They are pricey - but I hate buying things twice. (Buy a cheap version and then buy the better version.)
Any thoughts and suggestions on these two printers would be appreciated. Right now I'm using print services - White House Custom Colour and Bay Photo. But if something doesn't look right in the photo - I don't see it till 5 days later. And if I'm submitting to a show or client - that's too late.
I haven't considered Epson as many of the reviews indicate that they clog when not used a lot - and I will be an intermittent user.
Thanks.

I currently use an Epson Eco Tank printer. I does fine for most of my prints 8x10 and smaller. I send out for "real" prints and larger prints. I would highly recommend the Epson Eco Tank printers because of the inks last for ever. Like wise the Canon Mega Tank printers. No their colors are not up to museum quality but for everyday use, either one will save you a ton of money on inks. BTW, Best Buy use to offer a rebate for tradeing in your dead printer. Happy Printing

I use a Canon Pixma Pro 100 printer. Has 8 ink tanks, including a black, grey and light grey for incredible b&w photos. You can print photos up to 13 X 19 inches. I use only Canon ink and Canon or Red River photo paper. Overall, it is an amazing printer. You can often find deals on it.

Same here and I agree 100%. I've had mine for 3 yrs. I also have a Canon MX922 which I use for document printing, scanning and some photo printing (smaller sizes). Other than the cost of ink I have no complaints with either printer.

I also use a Canon Pro 100, great printer. The inks are expensive but so is everything else in photography, so I look at it as an extension of my photography and enjoy printing my photos. That printer can be had for about 150.00 after a rebate when you see a deal online.

More info needed:
Budget?
Photo printing only or general purpose?
Print larger than 8.5x11?
Print on nothing heavier than photo stock or accommodate other materials?
