I am reading this morning about the Lowndes County Alabama Sheriff, John Williams Sr., known as "Big John,", who was shot and killed by an 18 year old last night. It is a dangerous job to be a law enforcement officer in America, and I have complete respect for anyone who is willing to place their life on the line for the greater good of their community. This story made me think about this image, also made in Alabama some years ago and is a film image that I shot at 3 a.m. in Talladega, Alabama. The situation was that there had been a series of robberies and a clerk shot. By the end of the shift, the Talladega police had apprehended the suspects, seen here in the take-down. The photo was made with "Available Moon" because using a flash would be HIGHLY dangerous to the officers as well as to myself. I shot this with a Pentax LX camera, a Tamron SP (Special Production) 180mm F2.5EDIF lens using Kodak P3200 rated at 12,800 ISO and "push processed". The exposure was 1/8th of a sec. at F2.5. My prayers for Sheriff Williams and his family. Such a tragedy.
They've always had my respect.

I always look up to our men in blue. They never know what they will have to face when each day they put on that badge.
The picture reveals quite a bit about the occupation. Highest respect for our people on the line.
