The search on UHH is not very effective. You can use Google to search the contents of any website using this format in the Google search:

site:somesite.com your search terms

Examples:

site:uglyhedgehog.com B&H tax lawsuit

Good Lord! Is this what a person needs to do to before posting something on UHH? If so, this should be made very clear to anyone foolhardy enough to try.

I followed your advice and ended up in a forum called "General Chit Chat (non photography talk)", a forum I've never visited, because it sounds, well, rather "general" and "chit-chatty", as well as "non-photography". How could I have guessed that the news about B&H would be found behind that curtain?

Interesting. That's why, before my op, I did a search for "B&H" and "B & H". It didn't produce any references to this lawsuit. Or, indeed, any articles later than 2017?

I'm tired of UHH'ers responding to posts by saying "old news", when the search engine doesn't work.

Sorry to hear about your inability to spell B & H.

Curiouser and curiouser. We seem to have spelled it exactly the same way, but with different results. In fact, I just tried it again -- and, once again, don't get anything since 2017.

Nothing like the list you linked to.

Also, my search result url is the same as yours, except that yours has &srto=true at the end. Is &srto=true the secret sauce?

Please explain.

My bad. I thought all the long time members were familiar with the crazy search system here. Sorry

No, I was indicating that the fault does not lie with you. You mentioned that you had done a search before posting. I was saying that UHH search is very bad. Someone here said it only searches the Topic Titles - I do not know if that is true.

So I posted a way to search UHH using Google and these results WILL include the content in the whole topic, not just the Titles. [And this search format works for other sites also.]

I am sorry if it seemed I was critical in any way. I was just full of myself for having found that search "trick" and wanted to be helpful.

Old news.

Ok, but I check the main photo forum daily and don't recall it. It may be new to others of us as well. How many other threads are repeats that we put up with? Same with instructions in the golf mags with new authors.

If we did searches before posting, nothing would be posted. Just about everything's been covered.

I agree, this matter IS (days) old news. But as others have pointed out, this site’s Search Engine ain’t the best. However, it doesn’t help when the creator of this particular topic on November 15th, titled B snd H is either dyslexic or doesn’t give a damn to check its spelling: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-619328-1.html

I realize the following idea may not succeed as getting a consensus from members is as difficult as herding cats, but ideally, wouldn’t it be nice if a potential Topic creator researched in advance as to the actual date when some "NEWS FLASH" was released and then used this information to judge whether it’s worth hollering about it here?

Many folks have high regard for B&H as an online retailer, but they've just been hit by a lawsuit from the NY state attorney general, suing for $7 million in missed payments. Allegedly, since 2006, B&H has offered “instant rebate” deals to customers, and according to the AG, even though the company actually sells product at a discount, it must still pay tax on the full undiscounted price. Over time, again allegedly, B&H received some $67 million in reimbursements, resulting in a $7 million tax obligation.

Tough times, it seems.

Personally, I wonder if NY is so far in the hole because so many are leaving over taxes. Maybe they are trying to squeeze those that are still there. Not dissing NY. I have been there some and found it a beautiful state. Did pass on the city though. Just to big and to crowded for a old man who has lived in the country all his life.

No problem. One thing I've learned about UHH is that a person needs to be ready to learn the hard way. Kinda reminds me of how I learned to brand cattle.

The important thing is the learning, though: not the way.

Thanks for the explanation. I'll be better informed next time.

Well, the first time it happened, one can’t; I don’t blame you, jburlinson. But if one knows that this topic concerns TAXES and has been around this site long enough, one could hypothesize that there are enough political extremists here who can’t help themselves but toot their own respective horns about the "evil" U.S. Government. And then, wouldn’t ya know it, all it takes is ONE A$$HOLE of a particular side of the aisle to start ridiculing another who has the audacity to disagree and/or express a view from the other side of the aisle.

And then, all it takes is for one member to report such a post to the Admin, or else the Admin happens upon it during some sort of patrol, and BOOM!, the Topic and its entire thread gets moved to the General Chit-Chat section, or worse, gets booted DOWN to the Attic, which is inhabited by pitiful, hostile, carnivorous fiends who, as far as I can tell, are of only one political persuasion. To them, Attila the Hun is considered too soft.
