I love going to a zoo and being able to photograph animals that I would not normally have the opportunity to make images of. Elephants, being a University of Alabama graduate, are one of my very favorites. These lumbering giants cover all ends of the spectrum from highly gentle and nurturing to their young to having the ability to go on horrible rampages. The animal in this image was very close to me and I made this shot with a 300mm F2.8 lens, and it is "full frame" from top to bottom, and cropped horizontally. I love the skin texture, hair and crack in the Ivory on his tusk. Hope you enjoy and have an excellent weekend!

The Elephant is the mascot of the University of Alabama, which has a very good (American) football team. :-)

That’s a nice one, Mark--first-rate perspective and good use of the black and white.

Very nicely done. B&W is the perfect medium. I like the crop and razor sharp details.

While shooting elephants in Africa, I found the tusks very difficult to remove. But in Alabama, the Tuscaloosa.
