Straight out of the camera has its place, and still does for me, sometimes.

Back when I shot only film I was too interested in shooting to spend time developing and processing. For me, everything was straight out of the camera.
I picked up my photos at the drug store and carefully store the negatives should there be something to reprint or enlarge. Then I went through the prints and destroyed anything not worth keeping before I got home.
I miss the film days but I thank God for digital. I love to be able to fix and enhance my photos. I love that I can make a slide show for my family. It can take a lot of time to go through 4000 photos after a long vacation but I use to come home with 15-30 rolls of film, that could be expensive.
Straight out of the camera, sure, for so many family shots, including birthdays, holidays, just like film days as long as I have the shots. (I still print for my wife to enjoy.)
Straight out of the camera for a vacation of any other shooting event/outing, not likely. I look to fix distortion, straighten, look at different crops then what my lens offered, bring up shadows, sharpen, and dehaze and more.
There are no rules for good photographs, great photographs have just one: the photoshop work is exquisite.

(Umpteen is not a definitive number, it's a number without a limit
)
Except for slides, there was really no straight out of the camera shots in the film days. Someone had to interpret the negative even if it was a drug store machine that often did a bad job. Digital cameras have several ways to interpret RAW information as well.

Awesome, and everyone should have their own preference, which is perfectly acceptable.
I guess this is how ad revenue is earned for this site.

Don't wanna ride? Hope off the train. Personally, I miss Agfachrome, Sakurachrome, Fujichrome et al, and getting different looks "SOOC" by using different films.

You can get different film looks SOOC.
Fuji digital cameras have that option.
And it works pretty well too.
