He works at a local hospital and they were about to toss this thing in the trash. My friend thought of me and asked if he could have it. They told him to take it.

It's a Bogen 3033 and is the biggest tripod I have ever seen. It's way to heavy to take on a hike. My friend said your the only one I know with a living room big enough to justify this thing.

That's a FF 300mm f/2.8 lens on top of the tripod.

Well now you have a stronger tripod for your always mounted "just in case" critters in the yard rig. 600 mm isn't it?

I actually have both the Sony 300mm f/2.8 lens mounted on the Bogen tripod AND a Minolta 600 f/4 mounted on a lighter weight Gitzo tripod. One lens is pointed to the South, the other lens is pointed North.

I first met this friend when he asked me if I was interested in buying his old Minolta lens collection. He had made the jump from Minolta to Canon before Sony decided to enter the SLR camera market and ran with the Minolta Alpha mount lenses. I bought most of his lenses. He was glad to get anything for those old lenses.

I looked that model tripod on eBay. They typically go for $150.

At least you don’t have to extend the center column 😊. Seriously, you might find that big heavy tripod will make a noticeable improvement in your pictures. I picked up an old Gitzo aluminum 5-series on Ebay for a song and was stunned at the difference it made the next time i took pictures of the full moon. Your tripod won’t go on hikes, but it can still be useful.

Have fun!

The 3033 is a fine tripod I have had one over 30 yrs I no longer use it due to opting for Carbon Fiber Pods.
Attached is an image large heavy duty 30# tripod, I purchased about 25 yrs ago at an auction for $2.00 I only bid to get things moving Lol, I now use it for a 60X spotting scope.

I have one of those too. It was my first and is my only tripod. I do not use it outdoors.

I'm glad to learn that I'm not the only one with this lens.

Thank you. We joke that we live in a tree house. Most of these widows face South-West so we are treated to a beautiful sun set through the tree tops every evening.

Lucky buy/bid! I understand this things are easy to repair and you can still get parts for them.
