All I've seen about Affinity here on a search are relatively old posts.
I have Photoshop, but a friend in France is asking for alternatives.
Anyone using Affinity here?
Anyone using Affinity who is has experience with Photoshop ?
Thanks!
(Yes, I know about GIMP.)

Yes, lots of us here use and like it. As a suggestion, use google to search for things here on the hog. You will get better results than the hog search function does. As an example, I typed google affinity ugly hedgehog into the search bar and this link came up:
https://www.google.com/search?q=affinity+photo+ugly+hedgehog&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safariFollowing that link will get you many answers.
Hope this helps

Yes, thanks for the input and search tip. I’ve only been a member here since.... forever, but not seen that method.

Thanks, Linda!
As Linda said, I use Affinity. Still learning; love it..... Have no experience with Photoshop.
I am currently using Affinity Photo have never used Photoshop, sorry, but I have used both LR and PSE (still use PSE occasionally) and prefer AP. And I've found it's learning curve to be quite gentle, although opinions on that vary. Your friend could try the free trial and decide for themselves.
It is an excellent editor and Serif, the manufacturer, has excellent tutorials in You Tube.
I have been using Affinity for almost three years now and still trying to learning all the features. My original cost was about $45 and have received updates and upgrades at NO additional cost. I once used Adobe Elements and Lightroom but gave up on them both. I still use On1 which is similar to Lightroom but has layers to enhance your PP experience but it's still an unstable platform and subject to crashing.
Hope this helps,

I have affinity and have started to use it about 20 or 30 times over past couple years Occasionally I can’t even put one picture in it to work on. Other times I get a picture there but then get stuck. Just can’t get started and seems very complicated for this old brain. But today I will try again. I do use Pic Monkey. Probably a poor mans version of editing a photo
I use Affinity Photo. I am not a very sophisticated user of any of the PP programs. When I chose AP, I downloaded the trial versions of both it and Photoshop. I found the interface for AP to be intuitive for me. That's a personal preference and not a recommendation.
I agree that their tutorials are excellent. The also publish a workbook that is very useful. One of my gripes about all of the training materials that I have seen is that they tend operate in the mode of I have a picture and I know what I want to do with it and here is the technique to do it in our software. Usually, I have a picture that I know needs improvement. The question for me is what technique would actually make the improvement.
Thanks, everyone.
I appreciate your input.
I looked at several video tutorials and was impressed.
Sent a recommendation for Affinity Photo to Etienne.
I think he will like it.
I have been using Affinity Photo since its introduction for Windows. Love their pricing model!
I have found AP to be more intuitive than Adobe Elements and GIMP. And, it handles RAW photos from my Canon 80D quite well. Also, like the others here, I have found the videos to be excellent. I have purchased the workbook, and it looks great, but I have not taken the time to work with it as yet.
One major issue I have with AP is that, once you Develop the image, you cannot go back to RAW and work where you left off; you lose the RAW history. I hope they plan to change that!

I have used AP and it is a good program. The one issue I have with it is the print module is unduly cumbersome. But a good starting place is Anthony Morganti with a 15 episode on using AP

I use Affinity and love it! There are many free tutorials out there to instruct you. They start very basic and end with some powerful tools it has. It has a free trial download too. Try it, you’ll love it.
