Oops, I meant turkey. Turkeys are abundant here on the Cape but I seldom see them fly. vz

That's because they can only go from the ground to the tree and visa a versa.

Legend has it that they fly ONLY between November 1 and Thanksgiving! Actually, I’ve NEVER seen one fly. Nice shot.

It looks like a wild one, maybe they can fly. The modern farm raised ones are too fat to fly. Thus the famous turkey drop episode of the comedy WKRP in Cincinnati:

Have seen turkeys fly. They were in view probably over a range of 300 ft in flight and going strong before they disappeared into the puckerbrush. They are not graceful fliers (at least those that I have seen).

More interesting is seeing Guinea Hens fly. They are like little spheres with wings.

Pigs, not so much.

Wow, I've never seen wild turkeys fly more than a short distance. Your description of Guinea Hens flying is comical. Thanks DirtFarmer for checking in and commenting. vz

Just google turkey fly.
There are plenty of videos on YouTube showing it. They actually can fly pretty well

I have only seen them fly up to or down from a tree. In fact, they sleep in trees. Since coyotes. Don't climb trees, they are safer.

not true. Here in northern NY the turkeys fly way more than that. It is not uncommon to see them take flight and fly from one wooded area to another several hundred yards away.
