In 1617 Sir Walter Raleigh commissioned a 240 ton English passenger galleon, for the last expedition to America she was later named the Angel Gabriel, She was a beauty. In 1635 sailing around Bristol Maine, carrying about 100 settlers she ran into a storm and she wrecked off of Pemaquid Point, off of the coast of Maine.
Although the area was settled for almost 200 years In May 18th, 1826 the it was determined that a light house had to be built and $4,000 was provided. The land was purchased for 90 dollars from the descendants of survivors of the Angel Gabriel ship wretch. The Pemaquid Point Lighthouse was constructed. I wonder how many lives where saved from this decision.
