USB Type-C Explained

The USB Type-C was mentioned a couple of days ago, on a topic regarding SSDs and HDDs, both internal and external storage. My laptop is not equipped to use the USB Type-C cables. It is a favorite among Mac OS Computers. It is much faster than previous USB Types. There is also USB 3.1. And USB 4.0 is upcoming? I found this article interesting. USB-C is a connector type and not a USB transmission format.
Other connectors support USB 3.x
