Hi all,
I love shooting good black and white images, and when I saw this fellow staring intently at a crowd of gawkers and the Birmingham (Alabama, USA) Zoo, I never considered making this a color image. I like this image because the monkey, a Black-and-white colobuses, reminded me of a little old man. His eyes are gentle and he has a bit of an unshaven beard as well. He looks wise to me, too. It seems he is thinking about his past and wants to tell people about his experiences. This was shot with a NikonD2x and a Nikkor 300mm F2.8 EDIF lens. The background is actually a cave, and so no matter the exposure, reproduced as a pitch black. The lighting was a soft, cloudy light, which highlighted the hair on the top of its' head and lit his face nicely. The fill light under him actually came from a pile of rocks that he was sitting on and that diffused the light that shown back up to him. The image was post-processed in Photoshop using the regular tools. Hope you enjoy!
