This was taken in the late 1960's in a little backwater town called Alviso, in the South San Francisco bay.

It reminded me of when I was a kid and I'd take all the soda pop bottles I could find and redeem them at the grocery store. It was .03 for the small ones and .05 for the big ones, if memory serves me right. That's really showing my age I suppose, eh?

My dad was out of work during the great steel strike in the early '60's and we collected bottles to help pay for food.

We used to get 2 cents a bottle and 5 cents for the big ones. We would walk the sides of the highway collecting enough until we could buy a fresh pop. On a good day, we could buy a pop and bag of chips.

Good times.

Nice street shot--it looks as if you caught her in the act.

In the mid-‘50s and '60s, my brother and I collected bottles along the roadside and cashed them in for money to buy reloading supplies--brings back memories.

Boy does that bring back memories. My cousin and I walked to school and Fridays was trash collection day. We would pick bottles out of the trash cans on the way to school, hide them in the woods and then after school we'd fill our bicycle baskets with bottles and turn them in at the small local general store and blow it all on penny candy at the same store.

I lived in San Jose during the early 80's and we used to go to Alviso for lunch when we wanted an authentic Mexican meal. I think the name of the place was Rosita's and it was indeed authentic. Thanks for the memories.

Ahhhhhh. Nice photo. Instigates memories. Collected bottles in my Red Flyer Wagon. Walked to a bakery outlet on Old County Road in the SF Bay Area. Bought Ding-Dongs and Twinkies for $0.11. Thanks for taking me down memory lane, I think. :)
