Today at our (Maui County) Veteran's Ceremony we had a presentation of the Purple Heart to Captain Lawrence Oliveira. The medal was earned as a Lieutenant in 1972 during the Viet Nam War while serving with the Hawaii National Guard. Lt. Oliveira returned back to Hawaii after completing his tour in Nam. He continued serving with the Guard until his death in 1978. The medal was presented to the surviving members of his family. (NOTE: Captain Duarte is a personal friend of the family and served with Captain Oliveira.)

Good, better late than never. I woke up in the hospital one time and had a Purple Heart pinned to my pillow. Slept thru it, the best way to attend award ceremonies.
Thank you for the beautiful pics from this important event. May all of our veterans and soldiers be blessed and thanked for their courageous service!
