I took some shots of my son Ian last night. I am in a creative slump so I am looking for some general critique on anything and everything - processing, cropping, lighting, or anything I could have done better. Photos were taken with a D700 and a 50mm 1.8. Touch ups in photoshop were just getting rid of undereye circles and brightening the eyes a bit - he also had a scratch above his lip. Black and white conversion on the 1st was a gradient map with a curves tweak. Second photo was intended flare (I'm a flare junky).
Settings on photos were:
1. f 2.8 1/500 ISO 400
2. f3.5 1/1250 ISO 400
3. f2.8 1/500 ISO 400
Thanks!
I like all of them but the first one is my favorite. How did you get the colored halo in #2 - was that added or just from shooting into the sun?
It's sun flare coming from the side of the bus (on the left) when it enters your lens at the right angle you get flare. It's a lot of fun to do and adds a little bit of an artistic element to photos.
Very nice shots, you did well on all of them. Each tells a story for sure.
Nice shots. You have a very handsome young man there.
