There have been numerous threads about companies that specialize in Gray Market products but I have only seen the name Tristate camera come up once. They are currently advertising the Tamron 18-400 lens for at or about $496. This seems too good to be true. Abe's of Maine is even selling it for a few dollars cheaper. Do any Hoggers have any experience with Tristate Camera?

Tamron, like Nikon, does not fool around with grey market products, you simply have no warranty nor repair possibilities with grey market.

So run and buy it from a reputable dealer like B&H or Adormama

With Grey Market it is a gamble. You will not have any MFG. service options with either Tamron or Sigma.
Canon will service your gear, they just will not recognize the warranty. I don't know about the other Mfg's.
I have purchased Grey Market and saved quite a lot of money over the years. It is fine, so long as you understand the risk.

You are clearly looking at saving a few bucks. It would be, perhaps, a better choice to look for a high quality used lens from MPB, B&H, KEH etc.
At least you would have a service option if needed and they offer a return policy and warranty.

Abe's of Maine was so good when they were actually in Maine. We went to the store and bought from their large selection of quality products. Businesses shouldn't be allowed to sell the name when they sell the business.

Both companies you list are absolutely awful. Neither are authorized to sell Tamron, and can only sell gray market. The lens comes with a 6 year warranty - 1 year initially, and 5 yrs added as a bonus for registering it with Tamron USA. You cannot register a gray market lens, and will have to rely on third party service locations for service if you have an issue. TriState is not being clear when it states it comes with a warranty card. Of course it does, but it is likely an International warranty and not valid in the US.

Your money, your loss if you by gray market. Good luck. Buy from reputable, authorized dealers.

If you keep away from them the better for you. Buy from reputable dealers if you want it new or used from reputable dealers like MPB, KEH, Adorama or B&H.
Remember that you get what you pay for...and keep peace of mind.
