Depth of field...I used an AF-S 50mm f 1.8G Nikkor on my D5100, and went through the scale, from f2, f 2.8, f 4 and f5---the last two as per the 'Challenge'. The shallow depth of field generated by the 50mm, acting like a 75mm on the D5100 on account of the 1.5 crop factor, threw the 18-105mm badly out of focus, making the jar of Cheeslings 'pop' out of the background.
ISO 500, Live View, handheld (elbow rested on arm rest of chair), no remote release, no self timer. Lighting was my usual (of necessity, no multi-strobe set ups, soft boxes, snoots, barn doors, modelling lights etc.): a single 40w fluorescent on the wall behind had to suffice. All indoor shots in this series taken by this light source alone...shutter speeds ranged from 1/30 to 1/5, handheld but rested my elbow on the back of a chair.

I pass on upside down and go straight through to 'Something old', where I have but a single item to offer (didn't have time for a self portrait !).

'Something children play with' takes me back to my first bicycle, I slept with it propped up next to my bed... :-)

There was a major crop involved here, the action was too far away for even my telezoom to get a tight shot. D5100, 18-270 PZD, ISO 200, 1/640th sec., f 7.1.

The lettering on the bike reads "Your best friend for lIfe"

'Something colorful' --- and I revert to the scene where a group of kids are participating in an art competition.

'Freezing time', and since this can be interpreted in a number of ways, please condone my somewhat contrived first effort, this being 'melting time' in India...hot and humid. The second one is a major crop, fortunately it was a D5100 / 18-105mm jpeg, so that it could withstand being cropped this much; about 90% of the original hacked away...
And with that, I come to the end of this vastly entertaining exercise. Thanks, everyone, and especially you, catgirl. Past midnight here, Sept 5, 2012, a new day, g'night all !

It was fun looking for the various elements. Upside down was the hardest for me. Pat, that piano is in Paradise Lodge on Mt. Rainier. Made from wood cut down on the site. Really facinating.

HAd to be archives for me today. The pouring rain began long before predicted and I intended to "shoot" while I was out, but I wasn't prepared for shooting in a downpour. The challenge for me was to attempt to find things I haven't posted before.

hello Subroto - little yellow centred flowers - are these frangipangi?

My sister has them on her farm (in South Africa) - my favourite favourite smelling flowers if they are.....
