I have a really dumb (judgemental) question. I have been using a D810 since February 2016 and have not outgrown its capabilities. Not sure of how many images I’ve shot with it, but likely about 15,000. You say that the click count on your D810 is 7400 and you’re looking at buying a D850. I’d be interested in knowing what you find missing in the D810 that is holding you back from creating excellent images.
I can't speak for the op but, I own the D810 & probably will never out grow it. With that said I do some low to the ground shoots ( bad back , hip, knees) & would purchase it on the tilting touch screen alone. Forget about it has 1 more stop of dynamic range ,2 more frames per second with the vertical grip e18 battery, the same focusing system as the D5. Not to mention, focus peaking, focus stacking. I doubt it would make me a better photographer but , I'm gonna pull the trigger sooner or later. Then probably sell the 810 & check out 1 of the Nikon Z cameras of Fuji GFX100 system for Landscape & macro.
