Look the leap and upgraded to Catalina... Made sure ta my passwords were correct and had no problems. Minor Sierra problems disappeared and all had to update was one app. Like it!

I heard the major problems are with "Photos", and that many people lost access to their images. It sounds like it has a new photo program, and problems were inevitable. I've been in touch with apple, and they told me it hasn't been fixed yet, and not to take a chance. Aside from its own "Photos" program, they said there are problems with others as well. Mine downloaded, but was never installed, so far I am unaffected. They said it was something about the build structure, and that it disrupts other programs too. Good Luck to you!
Oh yeah, There were problems with many Plug-ins too.

Been running on Catalina on my late 2015 iMac since it became available, no issues.
I use Lightroom classic, Photoshop ( Adobe CC ) ,ON1, DXO and many different plugins to edit & manage my externally stored photos, all have worked as expected since upgrading to Catalina, even my extensive music library converted without a problem to the new Music app, including all the album artwork.

Do you mean Google Photos?
I stayed with "iphoto" and "El Capitan" no problems.
Affinity Photo/Designer/Publisher all work fine with Catalina.

I upgraded to Catalina and find it very slow on boot up. I am using an iMac 2017, 27 inch retina. In retrospect, I should have stayed with Mojave.
