Marketing or branding ya know!

I have been trying to decide on a name for my experiments in "imitating", real art. I thought of "Hybridography" but that's too automotive so I settled on "FAUXTOGRAPHY"!

I think all approaches have been covered. "Imitating" art is too vague, though. Perhaps you could define what you mean?

As to what we already have: good and bad art under the term "Manipulated Photography."

Low level "Decorative Art" when a "Paint" filter is applied.

Good and bad art under "Photography."

If we need more, here are 62 types: https://expertphotography.com/types-of-photography/
Each of them can be well done or not, ordinary or artistic, commercial or "fine," and on and on. So there are likely hundreds of terms available. I suggest we stick to them and express ourselves clearly, lest my mind explode.

Seems like the bazillion brands and types of wine. When we leave the store we have a bottle of what we like and regardless of the preference if others, we drink it.

Check out “oceans and waves” website by Lee Mothes. This is Not making a photo look like an oil painting, but taking a photo and making it a painting. You would swear it’s a photo, but it’s actually a painting. He’s exceptionally realistic, and I have one of his Hubble paintings. I believe photography is a beautiful art form, as is painting; perhaps keep separate?
