DXO Photolab 3

Saw DXO announced Photolab 3 .... did not hesitate in upgrading from Photolab 2 for the improvements. Color wheel is nice, PRIME NR is great!

Still use Lightroom for my asset management, ACR edits and Photoshop, BUT DXO does raw conversions slightly different, and seems to handle subtle colors better/easier then ACR for me.

I've heard that their sharpen/denoise tool does a good job of separating noise from wanted detail.

Their PRIME noise reduction, only used on raw images, indeed does a very nice job.

This version requires Windows 8.3 or higher, or Windows 10. It will not load on Windows 7.

Just watched a 20 min video on the software. Impressive. Will give it a free trial when I have some new troublesome photos. Can you run it as a filter within Photoshop?

Doesn't run in PS but strangely enough, you can call it from Lightroom.

If called from Lightroom it will read the raw file, then edit using a dxo sidecar file, then allow you to export a tiff file that gets imported back into Lightroom automatically so the raw file is left untouched. It is called from the FILE menu, not from the edit in menu though.

Strangely, it takes about 45 seconds after automatically returning to Lightroom to import the new TIFF file....

That is correct. Windows 7 especially is problematic since Microsoft will end support of this venerable old OS in January.

I do wish DxO had better keyword support, like Lightroom. I use and like hierarchical keywording and have built quite an extensive list.

PhotoLab added keyword support in version 3 as you may know, but right now its only available on the Mac platform. Its is supposed to be available for the Windows platform in release 3.1. Since I'm on Windows I have never seen it and don't know how well it has been implemented.

There is keyword support in version 3 on a Mac, yes... but Lightroom definitely does it better in my opinion. Perhaps DXO will improve it over the next version or two. For now, Lightroom will be my basic management and starting program, calling DXO from Lightroom.

Terrific program. Recently upgraded from V2 and surprised that it was free. I love the perspective add-on too.
