Looks as though you came face-to-face with whom the regulars refer to as "IncrediBull," your bugler. 15 points and as nasty as they come. 4 of us chased him for a week in late Sept. He does provide nice shots if you are quick. Park ranger told us none of the other bulls have challenged him this season. All of the tines on his lower rack are white and smooth and hard as steel so they don't break in combat. He walked past me at about 15 feet, I sat there with 700mm of telephoto white and took a photograph of his left eye. He had just emerged from his "cleaning" brush and had a small tree hanging from the rh side of his rack. Best shot I got in 7 days of shooting. As our guide told me I was over-lensed! Nice shots of yours, hope you had as much fun as we had.

Thanks. They seem to know when they are in the Park and when they are not.

Very nice series. We are always watching for elk on our travels. They are a magnificent animal as you know.

Excellent shots of some of my favorite subjects. I love the elk rut, though I've not been able to capture shots of fighting. Some practice sparring, from young bulls, but never anything of consequence.

Once the rut is over, and the upper elevations get their snow covering, the elk will come down to our elevation (approx. 5100 feet). In the middle and late fall, bachelor groups will start to hang out on the golf course, across the street. In January, the rest of the herd will appear, and we'll see upwards of 200 head, across the street.

Elk never rake bunkers.
