Catalina + ON1 Photo Raw 2020

I'm running Mojave today but looking to install Catalina (a 64 bit only OS). I've just installed the release version of Photo Raw 2020 (released today, 10/17/19) on my iMac running Mojave and have played enough with it to feel comfortable using it to replace Lightroom for post processing.

My question is: Have any of you running Catalina yet installed Photo Raw 2020 (Release or Beta 2)? If so have you had any problems? If so of what kind?

ON1 advised that there are some compatibility issues but they look to me mostly concerning use of plugins (e.g. to LR and PS).

For what it’s worth, I’d be very cautious about upgrading to Catalina right now.
I did so last week and had LOTS of issues with Canon’s DPP running on it ... and it doesn’t recognize Canon’s CR3 file format yet.
I finally gave up and installed Lightroom yesterday and it works just fine ... running on Catalina and reading the CR3 files. I gave up on using DPP for now.
I’d stay on Mohave until you’re convinced they’ve solved all their snafus with third party camera applications.

Catalina is working out well on my fully loaded MacBook Pro 15. Some of the issues have been solved on the second upgrade and so far, no glitches. On1 RAW 2020 was somewhat slower than version 2019 but now that also has been improved with the Beta 2 release. I never had any problems with version 2019; so far, so good.

What is your opinion/experience of using ON1 versus LR6 for organizational capability. I'm particularly interested in being able to isolate/filter photo by the exif and meta data and tags/keywords. LR6 excels at this.

I do not need much more than simple crop, lighten and sharpen from the edit module. I am trying to find a sub for LR. I have about 80,000 photos in 5 catalogs.

Thanks for any info you have.

I am running ON1 2019 on Catalina, and it's doing fine. I'm hesitant to upload Version 2020 currently. I really like the masking features in 2019.

So far I've migrated LR catalogue to ON1 Raw Photo 2020 (As released 10/17, not a beta) while I can still run LR on Mojave. To migrate catalogues from LR to RP2020 one has to be in Lightroom to kick process off using the ON1 plug ins which get installed when you install RP2020. I've not done much editing in Raw Photo 2020 yet...still climbing learning curve but it looks like it will do everything that LR does plus a bit of Photo Shop with it's layers and masks. As I get more experience in next few days I'll report results and assuming no big glitches I'll upgrade to Catalina and scrap LR. RP2020 does have some interesting ways of handling presets.

The old adage - "if it ain't broke - don't fix it" applies very much here. Are you having problems with Mojave ? If not I can see absolutely no reason to buy into a bag of problems with Catalina

I currently am running Catalina and make use of Adobe CC apps plus DXO and ON1 Raw 2019. Just downloaded the trial of ON1 Raw 2020 release version. It seems to run fine, but have not really gotten into it much yet.

Not looking for a replacement for Lightroom, it manages my collection of images fine, but sometimes a different raw conversion engine can be beneficial. :) I like to have different tools to do different processing when it calls for it.

I agree. I think it's all about boys and their toys.

Reason for upgrading to Catalina: It's 64 bit only and therefor much better for large memory model situations. For example, I noted that Raw Photo 2020 ('RP2020') download is 1.5 gigs. Now that means that OS can't load whole thing into 32 bit memory blocks but can into 64 bit (even though it probably won't right away because software vendors are usually slower to upgrade their memory models and code structures for efficiency with larger memory models). Segmentation of code in memory means slower operation, especially when running multiple apps. It all adds up. There are other more technical reasons for preferring code that is truly oriented to 64 bit handling but suffice it to say" Remember when 32 bit became the standard even though most commercial software was still written for 16 bit models?
