Here's a penguin cartoon that hits my funny bone:
How many times do we remember saying, "Why do we need to learn stuff we will never use". I have remembered this lots of times when I actually used it. Each time, I chuckle about the comments we made.
I used to teach adults how to be travel agents. We started with a manually written ticket and the tariff books to compile the rates. (in those days, we were issuing paper tickets by computer) The question/statement about learning something we would never use. I said, maybe you lose the power and your customer needs a ticket. How do you accommodate them?? About 3 months after graduation, the power went out because of a construction crew down the street. My rookie just took out the tariffs and validated a manual ticket, completed the information and the customer walked out happy. (We used candle power and flashlights) We also served wine and beer to the waiting guests. Everyone was happy.
So never will I never question about learning something that I will "never" use, again.
