If you thought your new machine isn't what it should be, you're right!

Amen.
I switched from PC to Mac in 2007. Loved the MBP and OSX. Got the desktop in 2008 another in 2009.
Had to get a new laptop in 2014. Got a used MBP for the built-in features not included in the'14 MBP. Mainly optical drive, numerous ports.
Was looking for another laptop just last year.
A new MBP? Not hardly.
Pretty, and that's about all. A portable computer that is nice and sleek, has beautiful display. But you have to carry a bag of adapters to attach anything to it. A 'hub' to get ports , SD card slot, optical drive or any other doodad . What's the point of a portable when you need to carry another bag full of peripherals?
And pay top dollar to boot.
Ended up with a Dell that has a SD slot, optical drive, lots of ports. And about 1/3 the price.
IMO Tim Cook has ruined Apple. Love OSX , dislike Windows 10 but not $1500+ worth.

I concur with @ad9mac - I think the bean-counter Cook has been the ruination of the company. I've been a "fan-boi" since the first Mac, but in the past few years the company has produced more crap, from ill-conceived designs to OSX and iOS upgrades that break things that were previously working - and I believe it's all in the name of increasing revenue rather than making for the "wonderful customer experience" which was the philosophy that drove Steve jobs.

Just like any computer purchase you have to decide which elements you think are important and then shop accordingly.

I'm about to buy an iMac and I'm aware of some of the cost-cutting measures that come standard with iMacs and I will just choose the options for more powerful hardware that suits my budget and desires.

I've had a macbook pro for 5 years now and i'm looking forward to that iMac.

PS: What a biased-non-article that was.

Full of fluff opinion and short on much else.

Agree. Just another media twit pushing an opinion because someone gave him a forum to rant.

Once again, the world is seeing Apple's disregard for computers and MacOS. Computers are a declining area of interest for Apple. They have always been known for "beautiful industrial design", and crap hardware, ever since the first iMacs and iBooks twenty years ago. Been there through all of it. I see that the new OS X is another stab in the gut for many users

Un-addict yourself to Mac. Don't love anything that doesn't love you back.

I still cannot fathom for the life of me why anyone would spend their money on a macbook when the same money will buy a PC that is at least three times the machine the mac is.

Choose whatever computer brand you prefer. But, I would NOT base my decision on what Forbes has to say. They are one of the most anti-Apple website you can find. FWIW, they don’t appear to be big fans of Microsoft either. They mostly save their praise For all things Google.

Forbes has an anti-Apple bias. When the stock price drops, they’ll adopt a positive bias (and buy up stock in Apple!).

Mid-2012 MBP is awesome, and upgradeable.

MacOS and its ecosystem are WORTH the difference. It isn’t about the pretty hardware. I’ve used both platforms for 33 years. The MacOS just gets better and better. I cringe when I remember Win Vista and Win 8!

Stop cringing over two dead horses, and consider how good Windows 10 is. Sure, you can hear about people who are unhappy with it, but many more who have no problems and love it, like me.

What's this I read about the latest MacOS version doing bad things to people and functionality? Did you think Apple is immune from creating problems with its OS?

I actually like Win 10, about as much as 3.11, 95, 2000, XP SP3, and 7. At least they worked, and made sense until you scratched off the GUI veneer.

EVERY OS has teething pains. MacOS 10.15 Catalina will be usable without significant annoyance by 10.15.2 or 10.15.3, if history is a guide.

What makes MacOS great is its seamless integration with iOS and iCloud. Final Cut Pro X 10.4.7 is mission critical for me, as is GarageBand, as is Parallels Desktop (I run Win 7 and Win 10 on the iMac with Parallels Desktop). Graphic Converter 11 is also indispensable. I also run MS Office 365, Adobe Photography Bundle, and FileMaker Pro (cross-platform networkable database). So I need both platforms.

Okay. I get how the MacOS is indispensable to YOU. That doesn't make it the only thing that would do the job for many others, as some would like to believe. And it doesn't lessen how Windows is indispensable to some and does everything most of us users would ever need.

It's just real stupid that lots of folks who prefer one of them, for whatever reasons, have to ridicule the other or perpetuate fear of using the other.
I was witness to this in my years of supporting Macs and PCs in a school district.

And it's too bad that Apple does not allow MacOS to be run on non-Apple hardware (except by adventurous hackers). That's corporate insecurity for you.

The published stories about problem-prone Mac hardware designs have come repeatedly over the years. Always because of their aims to make computers more "stylish" to the extreme, quieter (leave out cooling fans), slimmer (defective laptop keyboards), not-replaceable-by-the-owner batteries, eliminating user expandability, owner inability to easily change hard drives, memory...... on-and-on.

And all this has made Macs difficult to maintain and service. I was there, as an Apple-certified service tech at a large enterprise. You can ask Apple service techs for yourself.
