I have mentioned previously that I was having a knee replacement procedure done with some new technologies. There are 3 doctors in California that developed a new way of doing the surgery using 3D printing and modeling so the procedure will be less invasive and recovery times are faster. I had my surgery on Sept 30th in the afternoon and was walking with a walker for short distances by that night. Released from hospital the next day (Medicare requires a one night stay, otherwise it’s an outpatient procedure) and was walking very well with the walker. It is now 10 days later and the range of motion is from 2 degrees flat to 105 degrees bent. I, my nurse/therapist, and others who’ve had a replacement are amazed at how fast I’m progressing. If you are thinking of doing a replacement, Google Nano Knee. You have a large cash upfront cost that isn’t covered by any insurance but it is totally worth it. I started walking around yesterday without the cane I had used for the three days prior to that. Now I take the cane along just in case, but I don’t need it. I still have some pain & swelling, but it’s from the stretching of the muscles to increase range of motion, not the knee.
I think this was one of my better decisions.

Wish you the best Pete and may you continue to have great progress!

Torture now...but it will be so worth it!!!
I had a friend that had hip replacement surgery and didn't do what the doctors/therapists told her. She just really wanted a scooter chair and she finally got it. She was very overweight and she just wasn't going to put out the effort to get better. Unfortunately, she died at 65...I think if she had lost the weight and gotten back to walking and moving she would have lived longer.
I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers!!!

I had my L knee replaced last February and I'll have my R knee replaced this coming February. The Dr. that I had used is a sports specific doctor that will allow me to return to high performance sports such as ice hockey and skiing. Will your replacement allow that?

I do not know the answer to that. Your best bet to get a definitive answer is to call them.

I've read several articles about that procedure. Very interesting.

It seems to be working really well. I’ve been going to Cryogenic Therapy also. The skin temp is brought down to -250* F and it really reduced the swelling.

My recovery was based upon my ability in PT. I was walking with crutches about an hour after anesthesia had worn off. I had serious pain for about 1 week. I took pain meds for the 2nd week only so I could sleep through the night. As of today, I am able to do some martial arts, but "fear" prevents me from serious workouts.

My motivation is being able to walk the beach and play golf. As long as I can walk without pain I can use the camera.
11days in and the only real pain comes from the stretching. The rest is all good.
