I was wondering if any one has first hand experience with the Lowepro Flipside 300WII, can this backpack be used as a carry on in airplanes?

Answer yes with United Airlines. Check with your airline.
United Airlines Carry-On Baggage
One full-sized carry-on bag 9 inches x 14 inches x 22 inches (22 cm x 35 cm x 56 cm) plus one personal item 9 inches x 10 inches x 17 inches (22 cm x 25 cm x 43 cm). If you are travelling on a Basic Economy ticket, your personal item will be the only item you can bring on board

Yes, on any domestic airline. In fact it will fit under the seat and can be carried on regional jets, but fits in the small overheads sideways. Other, you may have a battery in your camera. Any spares must be in a separate pouch and as another precaution I use electrical tape over the contacts. Batteries cannot be in any checked luggage.

It has to be no bigger than allowed carry on baggage. The Airline should publish this information for you on line or you can call them. I do not believe anyone here works for an airline. But I could be mistaken.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be one size fits all. Domestic and International flights can also be different. Check with the airline and hope conditions don't change by the time you fly. Overhead bins are getting more crowded, and luggage up there is being treated more roughly.

The problem is universal. Folks are trying to get everything in an overhead so they don't have to PAY for luggage. Folks will also check there bags just before entering the plane, again, so they don't have to PAY for luggage. Hence the slow loading and unloading of passengers. I say do away with overheads and the only thing you can bring down the ramp way is what can fit under the seat.
I also say, do away with telephone poles (since they mess up my photo's and have to remove them in PP) and man hole covers (pave over them for a smoother, gentler ride.

I frequently travel on United using an Economy ticket, and have never had a problem taking my full size carry-on? I don’t know how they would even know. I’ve never seen an agent look at the carry-on and the person’s ticket. They’re usually way too busy.

Is this a very recent change? Could be I guess.

I purchased the same bag and have had no problems whatsoever on Delta international or JetBlue domestic flights.
