On the news yesterday. Wolves taken off the endangered list in Yellowstone.

They've pretty nearly finished off the Yellowstone Elk herd. It doesn't mean anything in Yellowstone: no hunting there anyway.

Usually snow is a "Scene" choice, not a white balance choice. The Snow scene choice affects the exposure value not the white balance.

The blue is a white balance issue.

The apparant underexposure is an exposure issue. It happens because your metering system assumes that the average of what it is metering is gray. It it is all white it adjusts the exposure to make it gray. Thus you have to trick it by setting the EV to plus one or more...counter-intuitively the brighter the scene the more you have UP the EV. That is what the Snow/beach scene setting does.

Trying some stuff would work better with the full detail original. If you want people to try that you'd need too upload with "store original" checked.

This is the result opening as a RAW image in Photoshop Elements and making some white balance and brightness adjustments.

Only so much one can do with a low res image. Focus also looks like a problem at this resolution but may not be with the full resolution.

Let me set the stage for this photo. It was very cold, early morning and snowing. Managed to get a shot of a Alpha male howling to his mates. It was mid February in Montana.

Why is this shot overly blue?

Your light meter is being fooled, set your white balance to its highest degree kelvin 10k is great. you may also try using the "shade" white balance setting.

I think the blue cast makes it feel even colder..

I purposely use this blue cast myself for emphasis on very cold days.

I removed some of the blue in pp but I think the blue may be better. Agree that it looks colder. I reduced the blue & saturation some.

Thanks for the input. My experience with wolves is in no way encompassed with fear and intimidating. I never take for granted the wildlife that share their time with me. I realize that I am blessed to be able to walk out my door and see bears, cats and other creatures!
