Does anyone have any experience of selling photos on SmugMug? Easy to use?

Will,

Yes it is or at least it was when I used it for a number of years. I might suggest Shutterfly. I switched to it 8 years ago. I have 5 sites for posting images. However, I do not sell images. I just share them with others.

Easy to use after setup. Get quite a few hits but not interested in selling on the site. I use it for family and friends. For me it is easier to sell locally.

To sell locally.
Are you using stores, galeries, shows?

I found Smug Mug hopelessly non intuitive, incredibly frustrating, and poorly designed. Tried it three times, each time vowing I would come to grips with it, and never achieved anything. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

I did too. But after a few months of back n forth it all became clear. And now is extremely simple
You create folders and each folder can have 1 to hundred or more galleries. Each gallery can have 1 to a zillion photos

My experience exactly. I came to the conclusion that I was defective, poorly attuned to the rest of the world, and unable to learn anything new. So, I am still thinking about what I want to do for a web site. But then again, the world is not clamoring for my photos. Still like taking them anyway!

Yes... Recommend it. There are a number of choices for printing and the photos are shipped direct to the client. Easy to get set up and easy to use. If you need it, SmugMug support is the best.

I used Flickr as my main way of showing images online but then SmugMug bought it and wanted to charge for it but their new subscription policy and app install/setup was problematic so I tried SmugMug based on positive reviews on UHH. I find it much easier to show images without annoying ads inserted everywhere as free Flickr does.

So far I've created 15 galeries covering Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, and Costa Rica and a link to them thru a personal URL which SmugMug makes easy to obtain and link through their website. (See CaptainBobPhotos.com)

It's easy to upload, set up options, and even has some editing features although I do all my post-processing in LR 6 and upload batches directly to SmugMug from Finder. Another thing I love about SmugMug is that there are no restrictions on size of image for display or uploading and no limit on number of image files. I haven't tried to sell images online but it looks trivially easy to set up to do so.

So far I've found only one bug in SmugMug's current version: It allows one to select a gallery cover photo but then doesn't actually use it for the gallery thumbnail. Instead it seems to pick one at random from the photos uploaded to the particular gallery. Not a big detail though.

I found it fairly easy to set up. If you shoot senior portraits, weddings, events or other types of shoots where you'd like those in attendance to have the opportunity to purchase photos, coffee cups, cards etc., it is a good site. A big plus for me is I use it as an unlimited backup (full resolution) off-site. It is easy to create links and email to folks so they can access the particular gallery from which they can choose products you've selected and priced. Good luck!

I have been using SmugMug for about two years. I found it very easy to set up and even easier to use. My customers, and potential customers, seem to like it as well. Check out my account as listed below. Best of luck.

A number of folks on YouTube recommend Square Space. Yes, they get some cut for recommending them, but it’s worth looking at.
