Collings Foundation Nine-O-Nine Crash

As most of you, or many of you may already be aware, the Collings Foundation WWII B-17 crashed today at Bradley International Airport. Reports say that 7 persons on board were killed, and 6 were injured. One person on the ground was reported injured also. This is a terrible tragedy to say the least, for the persons that were killed and injured, and their families as well. Also, for the loss of such a historical aircraft, of which there are so few preserved and flying. My condolences go out to all who lost a loved one in this terrible accident.
I saw the Nine-O-Nine in 2016, and just want to share some of my images of that beautiful aircraft that is no longer with us after today. I hope you enjoy them.

Yes Bob, very sad indeed. Quite often, WWII vets that flew on B-17's get to fly in to an airport when the plane goes from one location to another. Would be so sad and ironic for them to have survived the war, then to die in a crash at home if that was the case.
I know that when the Collings Foundation planes were here in 2016, there were WWII vets that flew up from New Jersey. I had the pleasure to speak with them while they were waiting for the planes to arrive here. You could also purchase a 30 minute ride for $450.00 on the second day that the planes were here as well. I did not, but I know that the B-17 and the B-24 both took people up, as did the P-51, which was a 2 seat version.

A real tragedy, no doubt. I took a flight on a B24 several years ago thinking I would never again get the chance. So glad I did.

Great pictures of the nine-o-nine! As others have also noted, this was truly a devastating accident. Hopefully, this won't derail the educational mission of Collings Foundation.
I live in the next town from Collings HQ, Stow, MA and have visited the museums and events there many times. Here is a link to last year's WW2 Battle for the Airport re-creation and grand opening of the Heritage Museum.
