So whats a Porchfest you might ask...
Porchfests are music events held across the United States and in Canada on front porches of neighborhood residences. Porchfests started in Ithaca, New York in 2007 and has been taking place for 13 years now. Porchfest events bring local musicians and neighborhoods together to celebrate and create a sense of community, quite similar to Community Day events held across the country. The concept was to find local musicians and porches where they could play. The original event in Ithaca, New York, started with about 20 musicians but has since grown to over 100.
Bands, singers, and instrumentalists participate in the festival for no other reason than to showcase their talents and engage the community. Music is diverse and can range from country to pop, classical, reggae, blues, rock, jazz, Latino, R&B, folk and many others. Musicians voluntarily take to the "stage", meaning they do not get paid to perform. They perform on porches at their designated times and play for a set time. Signs with artists' names and performance times are usually posted in front of porches and online.
I had never heard of a Porchfest before 2 weeks ago, and I only found out about it while I was talking to a local food truck vendor that attended my local Fire Departments Food Truck Fest. So this past Saturday, after I had attended another local festival, on my way home I decided to stop in at the Rhinebeck Porchfest 2019 to check it out. This was the 4th Annual Porchfest that the Village has had.
Just a little history… Rhinebeck is a village which is located in the Town of Rhinebeck in Dutchess County, NY. The village has a population of around 2700 people today. Rhinebeck was settled around 1686 by Dutch settler’s originally living in Kingston, NY. After deciding they wanted to form their own settlement, they crossed the Hudson River and they purchased about 2200 acres from the Iroquois Indians. Today, there are many historic homes in the village of Rhinebeck, which has its own historic district and has many home listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Below are some of the musicians that I saw perform, and the porches that they performed on. The one exception to a porch is Ruge’s Automotive, as this was the first Porchfest that they hosted a band. I hope I didn’t bore you with my rather lengthy intro, and apologize if I did.

That has probably been going on for 100 years or longer and not just for 13! We had quite a few when I was a little boy!
What a great idea and it looks like all had a good time... Love both sets of pictures...
That looks like a fun day.
