I know that many people replace the tripod foot of the Nikkor 200-500. Does anyone have the original laying around that would be willing to sell it? Please let me know as I am looking for one. The plastic screw head on mine cracked and Nikon will not just sell me the screw to replace it. They say that I have to send it in to get it repaired. How ridiculous!!

HOW RIDICULOUS indeed. And I wonder how that screw cracked. Must have done it on it's own. Just up and cracked all on it's own.

Really does it matter how it broke. He would like to repair his lense, but most likely does not want to lose the use of it for the 6 weeks or more it is likely to take to send it off. He asked a simple question and you have to give him attitude.

You can buy them on ebay . The RRS ones are little better, but if you are serious about stability, get and use a lens bracket similar to this - https://www.ebay.com/itm/L200-Long-Focus-Telephoto-Lens-Support-Bracket-Holder-w-Quick-Release-Plate-US/333148557869?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

billnikon, I am not going to get in an argument with someone that wants to be a troll, but to answer your question, I was just tightening it one day and the head just spun. Upon taking it apart I found the plastic head was cracked. I superglued it, but that was a temporary fix. gtilford, you are exactly right about why I don’t want to send it in, when I could just fix it myself. I use a long Fusion plate with my current foot and like the set up, so that is why I would like an original equipment Nikon foot. Thanks for your replies (even Bill, since he reminds me what is so great about anonymity of the internet), but I am still interested in a foot. :-)

All, third party, all from China ......

This seems like a good opportunity to get an up-graded collar.....but a stabilizing bracket is the ultimate answer ...

Attitude, really. First he slams a good company for not selling him a part that most likely he broke himself and then that action gets defended by others. Me, attitude, I think not.
When you come on here and slam a good company for no good reason you get what you get.

He did not slam anyone all he stated was that it is ridiculous that the company in question would not sell the screw so he could repair an issue, how that issue occured is irrelevant.

I wouldn't respond any further if I were you. Some people just can't be civil.

Calling a company Ridiculous is slamming. I believe this is my last statement on this subject. I have better things to do.

If I need a screw for my car, I can go to the dealer and buy one. Imagine if my car manufacturer tells me that I have to bring the car in for service for a screw?

I would suggest you google thumb screws and see what pops up. or better yet try an Ace Hardware Store, Lowes. etc they have an assortment and you should be able to find one that will fit and no one but you will ever know it is not OEM. I'M sure the threads will be metric.
